Shaftesbury Drums / BEVAN
“Bev Bevan uses Shaftesbury drums.
He thinks they’re great.
Today he feels like the star of The Move.
His fans think so, too. And now he’s going places with The Electric Light Orchestra — so are Shaftesbury drums.”«Bev Bevan usa baterías Shaftesbury.

ELOSPAIN:
ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA and previously of THE MOVE. In it, he promotes the "Shaftesbury Drums" brand in the music magazine Melody Maker between 1971 and 1973.
The text reads:
“Bev Bevan uses Shaftesbury drums.
He thinks they're great.
Today he feels like the star of The Move.
His fans think so, too. And now he’s going places with The Electric Light Orchestra — so are Shaftesbury drums.”

If we look at its context, the advertisement is placed right at the transition between THE MOVE and the early days of ELO (1971–72). BEV BEVAN was still known for his role in the first of the two groups, but the text already mentions that “he’s going places with The Electric Light Orchestra,” which makes it one of the earliest printed advertising references connecting his image with ELO.
Promotion of a new line of Shaftesbury drums featuring:
• 9 different metallic finishes
• Precision fittings
• “Headmaster” control system for tone, height and volume
• “Sophisticated 70s look”
A curious ELO / THE MOVE collector’s document, as it shows BEV BEVAN as a Shaftesbury endorser before switching to Premier Drums and later Slingerland, with which he would become better known afterwards. It is also an early hint of ELO’s promotion through its founding members in the British media.
