Et Moi&Moi fue un dúo francés formado a finales de los 80 por; Agnès Falque, vocalista y nexo de unión con JEFF LYNNE y Olivier Guindon, guitarrista muy respetado en Francia, conocido por haber tocado con el legendario Alain Bashung.
La conexión con JEFF no fue musical en un principio, sino estética. En 1986, la ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA estaba rodando el videoclip de su éxito «CALLING AMERICA», que se grabó frente al Centro Pompidou y el metro de París.
Agnès Falque trabajaba en ese momento como diseñadora de moda y estilista en la capital francesa, y fue contratada para encargarse del vestuario y la imagen de la banda en ese rodaje. Durante esos días, JEFF y Agnès forjaron una amistad muy estrecha que se mantuvo con el paso de los años.
La producción de «Drôle de Vie» (1991)
Unos años después, cuando JEFF LYNNE estaba en plena época de los TRAVELING WILBURYS y su disco en solitario ARMCHAIR THEATRE, invitó a Agnès y Olivier a su estudio personal en Inglaterra (Bungalow Palace).
JEFF LYNNE no solo produjo el tema, sino que tocó todos los instrumentos (batería, bajo, guitarras, teclados) y se encargó de la ingeniería de sonido junto a su mano derecha, Richard Dodd.
Si se escucha la canción detenidamente (o su versión instrumental), se nota inmediatamente el sello de JEFF. La batería seca pero potente, las capas de guitarras acústicas y esa nitidez pop tan característica de su era post-1987.
Es conocido que grabaron más material, incluyendo una versión de «LOVE» de John Lennon, pero «DRÔLE DE VIE» fue la única que vio la luz de forma oficial.
¿Por qué es una joya oculta?
El single fue editado por RCA/BMG en 1991 solo en Francia (en formato 7″ y CD Single). Sin embargo, ocurrió algo muy extraño: el disco fue retirado de las tiendas apenas unos días después de su lanzamiento.
Nunca se dio una explicación oficial clara de por qué se canceló la distribución, pero el resultado fue que solo unas pocas copias llegaron a manos del público. Hoy en día, conseguir el CD original de «DRÔLE DE VIE» puede costar entre 200 y 400 euros en el mercado de coleccionistas.
Existe una versión instrumental que es pura delicia para los fans de la ELO, ya que permite apreciar el «muro de sonido» de JEFF LYNNE sin las voces, revelando lo mucho que se parece a las producciones que hizo para GEORGE HARRISON en esa misma época.
Durante las sesiones en el estudio de JEFF (Bungalow Palace) en 1990, no solo grabaron «DRÔLE DE VIE». El dúo francés grabó al menos tres canciones bajo la producción total de LYNNE. Algunas informaciones apuntarían a cuatro temas…

Según los comentarios recogidos en el libro Unexpected Messages de Patrik Guttenbacher, Marc Haines y Alexander Von Petersdorff, JEFF LYNNE produjo cuatro temas para Et Moi&Moi.
«Parte de 1991, JEFF lo pasó produciendo cuatro temas para el grupo francés Et Moi&Moi. Uno de ellos se lanzó como sencillo independiente, «DRÔLE DE VIE», que también había co-compuesto.» Et Moi&Moi fue una colaboración entre Agnès Falque y Olivier Guindon; él era el guitarrista de Alain Bashung en ese momento (Alain Bashung es un cantante muy popular en Francia). «Yo, era diseñador de moda en el video promocional de ELO «CALLING AMERICA» en Paris. JEFF se hizo amigo mío y se le ocurrió la idea de hacer la canción primero en inglés y luego en francés». Grabaron varias canciones en el estudio de JEFF LYNNE en Inglaterra (grabaron una versión de «LOVE» de Lennon). BMG firmó el sencillo pero no se hizo cargo de él. Para la canción «DRÔLE DE VIE», JEFF grabó, produjo y tocó todos los instrumentos.
El sencillo de esta canción (tanto en vinilo de 7 pulgadas como en CD Single) fue retirado del mercado pocos días después de su lanzamiento, lo que lo convierte en un sencillo extremadamente raro. Todavía a fecha de hoy se desconocen los motivos de su retirada.
«Finalmente, como aportación o granito de arena, hay quienes aseguran que en 1992, JEFF LYNNE también grabó cuatro temas para la cantante francesa Anyes, que publicaría el sello BMG/Ariola/Arista.»

¿Qué mago habría podido predecir esta pareja imposible? Con algunos años de diferencia, nacen en la clínica de l’Espérance, en Aix-en-Provence. Es, por tanto, al canto de las cigarras como los diabólicos emergen de sus lentos sueños. Desde una aspillera, su habitación queda bañada por un permanente sol negro.
Luego, como en una película de Antonioni, una mujer-escorpión llamada Agnès, moviéndose entre el estilismo y la arquitectura. En la radio: Creedence y Tina Turner. En la televisión: Embrujada. Una despreocupación que bien podría ocultar “una sed de amor” —su Mishima favorito—, y finalmente el encuentro con Jeff Lynne, comienzo de “una larga amistad”.
Elegante rubio con peinado Mod, Olivier habla de sus maestros —Clapton, Hendrix, Spector, Byrds, Otis Redding y The Beatles— y de su adolescencia entre el fútbol, el swinging London y las Triumph Bonneville.
En el vídeo: la pandilla salvaje, aunque para las motos, precisa él; si no, periódicos y documentales. Con Bashung (de Gaby a Novice), un desaprendizaje iniciático, añadiendo misteriosamente: “allá arriba en la montaña él le acompaña”.
Cuando se encuentran en la terraza de “Les Deux Garçons”, enseguida “se encariñan”, “se parten de risa” y a veces “se entusiasman”. Pero será más tarde, en el estudio, cuando caiga el rayo.
La voz insolente y helada emerge de las olas espectorianas para arder como el más puro de los inciensos en un más allá sin fin. Las guitarras de cristal o de plomo provocan la fusión de los colores, como un vitral psicodélico.
“DRÔLE DE VIE” (primer sencillo de 45 rpm de un álbum por venir) deja entrever otras emociones…

Quizá «Insolente» fue el cuarto tema que se llega a nombrar, aunque en este no parece que participó JEFF de forma directa. Hay quien indica que aparece como: “incluido en los créditos junto a otros artistas”.

Et Moi&Moi was a French duo formed in the late 1980s by Agnès Falque, the vocalist and the link to JEFF LYNNE, and Olivier Guindon, a highly respected guitarist in France, known for having played with the legendary Alain Bashung.
The connection with JEFF was not initially musical, but rather aesthetic. In 1986, ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA were filming the music video for their hit “CALLING AMERICA”, which was shot in front of the Centre Pompidou and the Paris Metro.
At the time, Agnès Falque was working as a fashion designer and stylist in the French capital, and she was hired to take care of the band's wardrobe and image for the shoot. During those days, JEFF and Agnès developed a close friendship that continued over the years.
The production of “Drôle de Vie” (1991)
A few years later, when JEFF LYNNE was in the middle of the TRAVELING WILBURYS era and working on his solo album ARMCHAIR THEATRE, he invited Agnès and Olivier to his personal studio in England (Bungalow Palace).
JEFF LYNNE not only produced the track, but also played all the instruments —drums, bass, guitars and keyboards— and handled the engineering together with his right-hand man, Richard Dodd.
If you listen carefully to the song (or its instrumental version), JEFF's trademark is immediately noticeable: the dry but powerful drums, layers of acoustic guitars and the characteristic pop clarity of his post-1987 era.
It is known that they recorded more material, including a version of “LOVE” by John Lennon, but “DRÔLE DE VIE” was the only one to receive an official release.
Why is it a hidden gem?
The single was released by RCA/BMG in 1991 only in France (on 7-inch vinyl and CD Single). However, something very strange happened: the record was withdrawn from stores just a few days after its release.
There was never a clear official explanation as to why its distribution was cancelled, but the result was that only a few copies reached the public. Today, obtaining an original CD of “DRÔLE DE VIE” can cost between €200 and €400 on the collectors' market.
There is also an instrumental version which is an absolute delight for ELO fans, as it allows JEFF LYNNE's “wall of sound” to be appreciated without the vocals, revealing just how much it resembles the productions he made for GEORGE HARRISON during the same period.
During the sessions at JEFF's studio (Bungalow Palace) in 1990, they did not record only “DRÔLE DE VIE”. The French duo recorded at least three songs under LYNNE's full production. Some information points to four tracks...

According to comments collected in the book Unexpected Messages by Patrik Guttenbacher, Marc Haines and Alexander Von Petersdorff, JEFF LYNNE produced four tracks for Et Moi&Moi.
"Part of 1991, JEFF spent producing four tracks for the French group Et Moi&Moi*. One of them was released as a stand-alone single,* “DRÔLE DE VIE”**, which he had also co-written." Et Moi&Moi was a collaboration between Agnès Falque and Olivier Guindon; he was Alain Bashung's guitarist at the time (Alain Bashung is a very popular singer in France). "I was a fashion designer in the promotional video for ELO's “CALLING AMERICA” in Paris. JEFF became a friend of mine and came up with the idea of doing the song first in English and then in French." They recorded several songs at JEFF LYNNE's studio in England (including a version of Lennon's “LOVE”). BMG signed the single but did not take it on. For the song “DRÔLE DE VIE,” JEFF recorded, produced and played all the instruments.
The single of this song (both on 7-inch vinyl and CD Single) was withdrawn from the market a few days after its release, making it an extremely rare single. To this day, the reasons for its withdrawal remain unknown.
"Finally, as a contribution or small piece of information, there are those who claim that in 1992, JEFF LYNNE also recorded four tracks for the French singer Anyes, which were to be released by BMG/Ariola/Arista."
