Face the Music: HOMENAJE A RICHARD TANDY
El espectáculo FACE THE MUSIC se celebrará el día 7 de noviembre de 2025, de 19:00 a 21:00 horas, en el Bradshaw Hall, Conservatorio Real de Birmingham, 200 Jennens Road, B4 7XR. con la orquesta y coro de RBC, y posiblemente dirigida por LOUIS CLARK JR. junto a la banda Big Horizon.

Estudiantes de RBC, antiguos miembros de ELO y Big Horizon se unen para rendir homenaje al icónico teclista de ELO, RICHARD TANDY, en este evento único que celebra la contribución de RICHARD a la banda.
Durante el espectáculo habrá una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con antiguos miembros de ELO, seguida de una interpretación musical única de los éxitos de ELO con Big Horizon y estudiantes orquestales y vocales de RBC, haciendo de esta una velada inolvidable.
TANDY, que se unió a ELO en 1972, tocó el bajo, los teclados, ocasionalmente cantó y, sobre todo, destacó por su uso del sintetizador Minimoog. Fue un miembro esencial del grupo, reincorporándose a JEFF LYNNE’S ELO en 2014.
RICHARD hizo su última aparición en el escenario en RBC en 2019 durante el concierto Earthrise. Falleció el 1 de mayo de 2024, dejando una extraordinaria colección de recuerdos e instrumentos a RBC, además de dar su nombre a una nueva beca para apoyar a jóvenes músicos de piano, teclado y guitarra. Establecida gracias a las generosas donaciones de Sheila, esposa de RICHARD, y de JEFF LYNNE, cofundador de ELO, el primer becado “Richard Tandy Scholar” será nombrado en octubre de 2025.
Dave Scott-Morgan, guitarrista de ELO entre 1981 y 1986, y cofundador junto a RICHARD de la Tandy-Morgan Band en 1985, espera que esta iniciativa inspire a la próxima generación de músicos:
“Richard es la prueba de que cualquiera puede plantar una pequeña semilla y verla crecer hasta convertirse en un gran roble… Era un músico talentoso por derecho propio, pero su mayor obra fue el apoyo y la influencia que aportó al proceso creativo.»
Este espectacular concierto homenajeará a RICHARD y sus logros musicales y recaudará más fondos para ayudar a que más jóvenes músicos sigan sus pasos. Los beneficios del concierto se destinarán a la beca RICHARD TANDY, y las entradas Premium son especialmente solidarias, aportando en conjunto más de 1.000 libras adicionales al fondo. También será posible donar directamente a la beca RICHARD TANDY dinero durante el proceso de compra.
Sobre Big Horizon
Big Horizon está formado por Mike Stevens, Iain Hornall, Donovan Hepburn, Jo Webb y Lee Pomeroy. Han sido la columna vertebral de JEFF LYNNE’S ELO desde 2013 y de la banda de Take That desde 2006. La agrupación representa a un grupo de amigos y músicos reuniendo sus pasiones musicales en un solo proyecto.
Estos músicos han tocado para Take That, ELO, Annie Lennox, Adele, 10cc, Yes, y fueron la banda base en el concierto del Jubileo de Oro de la Reina en 2012. Pero cuando la gira de ELO por Reino Unido y Europa fue cancelada debido a la Covid en 2020 hicieron realidad la formación de la banda.

RBC students, former members of ELO and Big Horizon come together to pay tribute to iconic ELO keyboardist Richard Tandy in this unique event celebrating Richard’s contribution to the band.
Featuring a Q&A with past members of ELO, followed by a unique musical performance of ELO hits with Big Horizon and RBC orchestral and vocal students, this will be an evening to remember.
Tandy, who joined ELO in 1972, played bass guitar, keyboards, occasional vocals and most famously the Minimoog synthesiser. He was a core member of the group, rejoining Jeff Lynne’s ELO in 2014.
Richard made his final on-stage appearance at RBC in 2019 during the Earthrise concert. He passed away on the 1st May 2024, leaving an extraordinary collection of memorabilia and instruments to RBC, as well as giving his name to a new Scholarship to support young musicians in piano, keyboard and guitar. Established by generous donations from Richard’s wife, Sheila, and ELO co-founder Jeff Lynne, the inaugural Richard Tandy Scholar will be appointed in October 2025.
Dave Scott-Morgan, ELO guitarist from 1981-86, and co-founder of the Tandy-Morgan Band with Richard in 1985, hopes the suite will inspire the next generation of musicians: “Richard is proof that anyone can plant a small seed and have it grow into a giant oak… He was a gifted musician in his own right, but his greatest work was the support and influence he brought to the creative process.”
This spectacular concert will celebrate Richard and his musical achievements AND raise further funds to help more young musicians follow in Richard’s footsteps. Big Horizon are Mike Stevens, Iain Hornall, Donovan Hepburn, Jo Webb & Lee Pomeroy. They have been the backbone of Jeff Lynne’s ELO since 2013 and Take That’s band since 2006.
