‘ELOcuencias’ es un espacio editorial de ELOSP.com en el que se analizan hechos reales desde una perspectiva personal.

Con la decisión y marcha de MIK KAMINSKI de su último grupo The Orchestra, se pierde algo más que la magia del sonido de su violín azul del que nunca tocó mal una sola nota. Se pierde su contorsionista imagen imposible de sustituir y admirar. Se pierde la importante leyenda de su nombre en los carteles anunciadores y promocionales. Se pierde el último emblema de The Orchestra que le unía, de alguna forma con ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA, y pasa a bajar otro escalón, como cuando perdieron a BEV BEVAN, KELLY GROUCUTT o LOUIS CLARK. Demasiadas bajas más que importantes como para continuar utilizando en vano el nombre de ELO en su cartelería y propaganda para llamar la atención de los aficionados y fans de ELO/JEFF.

Esto no resta su mérito de ser quienes, quizá, más merezcan ser la banda tributo a ELO por excelencia. Sus años interpretando los clásicos de JEFF LYNNE les otorgan ese beneficio. Es posible que no supieran aprovechar durante tanto tiempo sobre los escenarios, la oportunidad de llevar sus propios temas y hacerse hueco propio, ciñéndose exclusivamente a versionar covers que les remuneraban beneficios, llegando a perder el interés incluso de crear sus propias canciones con la posibilidad de lanzar sus propios trabajos, pero es esta una decisión muy particular y tan válida como la que eligieron finalmente.

La nueva imagen

La nueva imagen de The Orchestra imagino que deberá modificarse tanto en su montaje fotográfico como en su leyenda, o quizá pretendan, con la incorporación de un Dave Scott-Morgan mayor (82 años), seguir utilizando el sobrenombre de ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA aún cuando éste no sea considerado por muchos fans miembro oficial de este gran grupo por su corta y efímera trayectoria en la banda, tras una oportunidad que JEFF le otorgó en 1991 y que pocos comentan o incluso desconocen, aunque haya quienes sí lo consideren como tal.

Parthenon Huxley parece ser que sufre una lesión importante que le puede limitar mucho su vuelta a la banda, no cantó en su propio concierto el pasado mayo y, aparte de su silencio, no ha publicado nada nuevo, algo extraño en él. Las edades de algunos de sus amigos les limitan su futuro en The Orchestra… August Zadra podría haber insinuado también su decisión de no salir de gira con el grupo… con todo esto a la vista ¿cuánto tiempo le puede quedar en activo a esta banda? ¿quizá un par de años… quizá tres?

Es posible que sea mucho especular, pero ¿existe la posibilidad de que Big Horizon coja el relevo en un breve espacio de tiempo? ¿o sus compromisos con otras bandas famosas y sus pretensiones de crear temas propios les limitarían dejando el legado de JEFF LYNNE sin pretendientes serios?… El desconcierto tras el movimiento de MIK KAMINSKI es evidente.

Desde ELO ESPAÑA les deseamos éxito en lo sucesivo. Se abre una nueva etapa en The Orchestra. Quizá Dave logre cambiar el chip de la banda a mejor, puesto que además de ser un músico con mucha trayectoria también puede ser vocalista en determinadas ocasiones, dando un toque distinto a lo que ya conocemos de ellos. Además es un líder en su campo y, esto podría, a la larga, modificar las estructuras y esquemas de esta banda.

También la nueva violinista, supuesta sustituta de un MIK KAMINSKI insustituible, estamos seguros que hará lo posible por mantener el sonido característico de ELO al violín, aunque cada cual tiene su propio modo de estar y tocar. También le deseamos buenas vibras. No debe ser fácil ocupar el puesto de alguien tan sumamente emblemático y con tanta experiencia y carisma sin que se note su ausencia y sea uno el centro de atención a la espera de comprobar si se está a la altura. ¡Suerte!

A MIK KAMINSKI le deseamos el merecido descanso que se ha ganado después de tantos años al frente de The Orchestra llevando la música de ELO por todo el mundo con su violín azul. GRACIAS por todo su esfuerzo y dedicación.

A estas alturas, podemos considerar que a fecha de hoy, el único componente de la antigua ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA en activo sería BEV BEVAN (s.e.u.o.). ¡Ojalá por mucho tiempo! Incluso ROY WOOD decidió después de la pandemia del COVID-19 abandonar su actividad, por lo que dio explicaciones en una entrevista para Express.co.uk en las Navidades del año 2024. A fecha de hoy desconocemos si continúa con esa determinación. ¿En serio ELO se encuentra en crisis?

With the decision and departure of MIK KAMINSKI from his last group, The Orchestra, more is lost than just the magic of the sound of his blue violin—a violin on which he never played a single wrong note. His contortionist stage image, impossible to replace and impossible not to admire, is lost. The important presence of his name on posters and promotional material is lost. The last emblem of The Orchestra that somehow connected it to ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA is lost, and the band drops down yet another rung, just as it did when it lost BEV BEVAN, KELLY GROUCUTT, or LOUIS CLARK. Too many major losses to continue using the name ELO in vain on posters and publicity simply to attract the attention of ELO/JEFF fans.
This does not diminish their merit as those who perhaps most deserve the title of the ultimate ELO tribute band. Their years performing JEFF LYNNE’s classics grant them that distinction. It is possible that they did not know how to take advantage, over so many years on stage, of the opportunity to present their own material and carve out an identity of their own, limiting themselves exclusively to performing covers that brought financial returns, even losing interest in creating original songs and releasing their own work. But this is a very personal decision, and just as valid as the one they ultimately chose.
The new image
The new image of The Orchestra will presumably have to be modified, both in its photographic presentation and in its tagline—or perhaps they intend, with the incorporation of an elderly Dave Scott-Morgan (82 years old), to continue using the ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA name, even though many fans do not consider him an official member of the great band due to his short and fleeting tenure, following an opportunity that JEFF granted him in 1991—something few mention or even know about—although there are those who do consider him as such.
Parthenon Huxley appears to be suffering from a significant injury that could greatly limit his return to the band. He did not sing at his own concert last May and, aside from his silence, has not posted anything new—something unusual for him. The ages of some of his bandmates also limit their future in The Orchestra. August Zadra may also have hinted at a decision not to tour with the group. With all this in view, how much active time can this band really have left? Perhaps a couple of years… three?
It may be too much speculation, but is there a possibility that Big Horizon could take over in a short period of time? Or will their commitments to other well-known bands and their desire to create original material limit them, leaving JEFF LYNNE’s legacy without serious heirs? The sense of uncertainty following MIK KAMINSKI’s move is evident.

From ELO ESPAÑA, we wish them success in what lies ahead. A new chapter is opening for The Orchestra. Perhaps Dave will manage to shift the band’s mindset for the better, since in addition to being a highly experienced musician he can also take on vocal duties on certain occasions, bringing a different touch to what we already know from them. He is also a leader in his field, and this could, in the long run, reshape the structures and dynamics of the band.
As for the new violinist, the presumed replacement for an irreplaceable MIK KAMINSKI, we are sure she will do everything possible to maintain ELO’s distinctive violin sound—although everyone has their own way of being and playing. We also wish her positive vibes. It cannot be easy to step into the role of someone so deeply emblematic, with such vast experience and charisma, without their absence being felt, while becoming the focus of attention as expectations build to see whether the standard can be met. We wish MIK KAMINSKI the well-deserved rest he has earned after so many years at the forefront of The Orchestra, taking the music of ELO all around the world with his blue violin. THANK YOU for all your effort and dedication.
At this point, we can consider that, as of today, the only member of the former ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA still active would be BEV BEVAN (to the best of our knowledge). Hopefully for a long time to come! Even ROY WOOD decided after the COVID-19 pandemic to step away from activity, explaining his reasons in an interview with Express.co.uk during Christmas 2024. As of today, we do not know whether he still maintains that decision.
