Brum Beat Vs. Mersey Beat

En 1964 The Diplomats y un buen puñado de grupos de los Midlands participaron en el primer concurso popular de bandas “Midland Beat”, organizado por promotores, managers y cazatalentos de compañias discograficas para intentar destacar Birmingham con su Brum Beat  igual que habían hecho con el Mersey Beat en Liverpool.
No solo The Diplomats con Bev Bevan, participaron, sino también Carl Wayne and The Vikings (banda en la que después ingresaría el propio Bevan antes de formar The Move), Mike Sheridan and The Nightriders (con Roy Wood en sus filas antes de que los abandonara para crear The Move, siendo sustituido por Jeff Lynne y reduciendo su nombre a The Nightriders simplemente), y Gerry Levene and The Avengers (grupo en el que Roy previamente había militado también).

In 1964, The Diplomats and a handful of Midlands bands participated in the first popular band contest "Midland Beat," organized by promoters, managers, and record company talent scouts to try to highlight Birmingham with its Brum Beat, just as they had done with the Mersey Beat in Liverpool. Not only did The Diplomats with Bev Bevan participate, but also Carl Wayne and The Vikings (a band that Bevan would later join before forming The Move), Mike Sheridan and The Nightriders (with Roy Wood in their ranks before he left to create The Move, later replaced by Jeff Lynne, and the band's name was shortened to The Nightriders), and Gerry Levene and The Avengers (a group Roy had previously been a part of as well).
